KGO Dumping Most Local Talk
danpatterson:
Very interesting indeed…
erikschwartz:
KGO radio in San Francisco, one of the last radio stations in the US that actually produced a large amount of programming is dumping all but one talk host in order to be 24/7 news. 24/7 news likely means people in a studio reading wire service stories.
It’s sad, but not surprising, to see this happen.

College radio stations fear budget cuts could... →
infoneer-pulse:
College radio stations, which have long given a first break to little-known musicians and offered a voice for idiosyncratic viewpoints, are at risk of losing their identity to budget-cutters, a grass-roots campaign warns.
More than 350 college radio stations are going to the airwaves Tuesday to fight against a steady stream of universities nationwide that have been selling or...

FCC finally kills off fairness doctrine →
infoneer-pulse:
The FCC gave the coup de grace to the fairness doctrine Monday as the commission axed more than 80 media industry rules.
Earlier this summer FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski agreed to erase the post WWII-era rule, but the action Monday puts the last nail into the coffin for the regulation that sought to ensure discussion over the airwaves of controversial issues did not exclude...

Ever get the feeling the newspaper-Web war was... →
infoneer-pulse:
The newspaper industry and its allies have many grievances against the Web. They say the Web is parasitic, that it copies newspaper content and steals its advertising. They claim that Web creators will never provide the deep reporting that democracy needs and that newspapers provided before the Web arrived and ruined the media neighborhood. They want to tame the Web by rejigging...

Where Are They Now of the Day: Hey, remember Ted Williams, the golden-voiced panhandler who was propelled to Internet stardom when a chance encounter with a Columbus Dispatch reporter went viral? Well, he’s doing okay, thanks for asking.
Williams, who is now living in a sober house in LA, appeared on this morning’s Early Show to discuss his life as an accidental celebrity, and the...

From the about page of “Pirate Christian Radio”
Pirates are vicious, cruel and heartless thieves, why would you name a Christian radio station after them?
“Pirate” radio stations are those that broadcast from outside of “the system”. We are no different. Now-a-days, far too many “Christian” radio stations have become havens for every absurd fad and all types of foul winds of...
